Mobile virtual network operator XOX Mobile is now offering eSIM – basically, a virtual electronic SIM card – but only to new users.
The eSIM only works with the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max, iPad 2018, and Google Pixel 2, Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL.
XOX chief executive officer Ng Kok Heng said at the moment only selected phones support eSIM in addition to a physical SIM card, but eventually all phones will only have eSIM.
Customers have the option of registering on its website or at an XOX store.
For online registration, the QR code required to activate the eSIM will be emailed to the subscriber.
The company is also offering an eSIM-only plan – B59e – which costs RM59 a month and offers 12GB data with unlimited calls and 100 SMSes.
